Simandou, located in the remote southeast corner of Guinea, has the largest reserves of its kind known, with more than 2 billion tons of high-grade ore.

45.05 per cent of Simandou blocs 3 and 4 are owned by Rio Tinto, 39.95 per cent by Chinalco and 15 per cent by the Guinean government.

The Guinean government has asked Simandou developers to build a 650-kilometer railway and a deep-water port to transport minerals from remote corners of Guinea to coastal exits.
