SMM: affected by the global economic downturn and weak market demand, China's auto production and sales both declined in 2019 compared with the same period last year, and even the production and sales of new energy vehicles, which have been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years, declined for the first time. In sharp contrast to this is the strong counter-trend growth of HEV. According to the data of the Federation of passengers, the cumulative sales of domestic HEV models in 2019 were 285000, an increase of 33% over the same period last year, and has been growing for three consecutive years.

HEV is a hybrid electric vehicle, which is a compromise between traditional fuel vehicles and pure electric vehicles. The HEV also uses a hybrid drive between the internal combustion engine of a conventional car (which can be designed smaller) and the motor of a pure electric vehicle (PMSM or asynchronous motor), which reduces the demand for fossil fuels and improves fuel economy, thereby saving energy and reducing emissions and alleviating Greenhouse Effect.

"Energy-efficient cars should be hybrid." Recently, Wang Binggang, head of the National New Energy vehicle Innovation Project expert Group, said that traditional cars consume a lot of energy because of their large number, so energy saving is a very important task. Wang Binggang believes that hybrid power is the most effective means to reduce the fuel consumption of traditional cars, and China's traditional cars should be fully transformed to hybrid vehicles in the next 15 years.

"Battery is not a technical model or a technical feature. What kind of battery should be determined according to the needs of vehicle development." Wang Binggang believes that the power battery technology of new energy vehicles is diverse, including energy type, power type, energy and power type, and so on. He said that the batteries used in hybrid vehicles are power-type, and once a large number of hybrid vehicles develop, the demand for power-type batteries will be very large.

In the face of the imminent outbreak of the HEV battery market, some prescient battery manufacturers have long been ready and ready to pick rich fruits.

"at present, we have developed two HEV square cells, which have certain advantages in energy density, high rate charge and discharge, environmental weather resistance, high safety and reliability, long life and so on." Liang Rui, group vice president of Xin Wanda Electronics Co., Ltd., said that the performance of the HEV battery developed by Xin Wanda is similar to that of LG Chemistry. In 2019, it was the first to obtain the fixed points of customers of international car companies such as Renault and Nissan, and began to supply in bulk this year.

It is understood that Xinwanda received a fixed point letter from the supplier of the Renault-Nissan alliance in April 2019. The demand for related models is expected to reach 1.157 million in the next seven years, and the order amount is conservatively expected to exceed 10 billion yuan. In May 2019, Xinwanda was designated as the power battery supplier to be developed for the X project of easy Jet (a joint venture between Renault, Nissan and Dongfeng). From 2020 to 2025, Xinwanda will provide battery packages for about 366000 related models. In June, Nissan announced that it would work with Xin Wanda to develop the next generation of car batteries for the e-POWER system.

In order to meet the order demand, the first phase of Nanjing Xinwangda New Energy Project was mass-produced and delivered on July 10 this year. At present, the project has completed two HEV production lines and one BEV production line. The project has a total investment of 12 billion yuan and is divided into three phases of construction. After reaching production, the production capacity of 30GWh cell and system can be formed respectively. "Xinwanda's HEV battery is the first to achieve large-scale mass production in Nanjing, which is different from many other domestic power battery manufacturers, highlighting Xinwanda's unique advantages." Liang Rui said.

In addition to Xinwanda, the power battery "Houlang" Honeycomb Energy is also strongly involved in the field of HEV batteries. On September 21st, Honeycomb Energy released the news that the company's HEV battery pack passed the ECER100.02 standard factory audit on Sept. 18. The factory audit standard is strict and can be passed smoothly at one time, which lays a solid foundation for later products to successfully obtain E-Mark certification and enter overseas markets.

According to reports, the HEV battery pack applies for E-Mark certification from the Luxembourg E13 Ministry of Transport, which includes document audit, on-site audit, type test certification, certificate processing, and COP audit, which covers ISO9001 system management, parts inspection, production process control, and finished product inspection, with emphasis on detailed audits of product consistency assurance capabilities.

It is understood that the honeycomb energy of the HEV battery package, using 5.2Ah cells, using air-cooled cooling, positioned to carry HEV models, the whole vehicle through start-up, acceleration, braking and other processes to fully meet the requirements of low fuel consumption, the European Union and other developed countries have a high degree of recognition, the development and mass production of this product enriches the product line of Honeycomb Energy Company and demonstrates a strong R & D capability.

It is worth noting that Japan's Toyota and Honda are the two giants in the global HEV field. Among them, Toyota's global sales of hybrid electric vehicles exceeded 14 million in 2019, making it a veritable global HEV leader, while Keliyuan is currently the only supplier of Toyota's HEV battery industry in China.

It is understood that in order to meet the growing demand of Toyota's HEV market, Ke Liyuan has been committed to the expansion of supporting capacity of HEV batteries in recent years. It is expected that by June 2021, the company's Ke Limei, Koba and Changde Liyuan will achieve an annual production capacity of 480000 sets. The person in charge of Ke Liyuan said that after laying the groundwork in the early stage, the supply chain of Ke Liyuan HEV power battery has shown a trend of continuous growth in recent years. It can be expected that with the continuous improvement of supporting capacity, the value of Ke Li in Toyota HEV industrial chain will gradually increase, and its profitability will be further strengthened.

It is understood that the performance, reliability and safety requirements of HEV battery are different from those of BEV (pure electric). According to industry insiders, BEV generally carries high power, but HEV carries less electricity, but it only needs high energy density to ensure its stronger power performance; at the same time, HEV batteries require very high power performance.

HEV requires batteries to have a very long cycle life, such as more than 10000 cycles, while BEV batteries generally have about 2000 cycles. In addition, HEV batteries are more difficult in terms of battery development and product quality control. In addition, HEV battery development and manufacturing costs are more challenging, which is why most battery manufacturers are giving priority to developing BEV batteries. " The industry insiders said.

Throughout the world, the only companies that can develop and mass-produce HEV batteries are Toyota's PEVE, Panasonic, Hitachi, Blue Energy, LG Chemical, Xinwanda, Honeycomb Energy, Keliyuan and other players. It is not difficult to imagine that with the increasing penetration of the hybrid vehicle market, there will be more battery manufacturers involved in HEV batteries in the future.
