Brazil's crude steel production rose 3.5% to 2.6 million tons in July compared with the same period last year.

SMM8 March 18: Brazilian crude steel production rose 3.5% year-on-year to 2.6 million tons in July, according to the local iron and steel association in Brazil.

According to IABr, domestic steel sales totaled 1.7 million tons in July, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year, and pointed out that steel consumption in July was 4.4% higher than the same period last year.

According to the Brazilian Iron and Steel Association, steel imports reached 146000 tons in July, valued at US $168 million. These figures represent a 27.7% year-on-year decline in volume and a 23.7% year-on-year drop in value.

As for the cumulative period from January to July, Brazilian crude steel production fell 13.9% year-on-year to 17.1 million tons.

From January to July, domestic steel sales were 10 million tons, down 7.6 per cent from a year earlier. The apparent steel consumption in the first seven months was 11.2 million tons, down 8.2% from the same period last year. Brazil's total steel imports from January to July fell 18.5 per cent from a year earlier to US $1.3 billion, according to IABr. Brazilian steel exports fell 8.7 per cent year-on-year to 7 million tons from January to July, 16%AB said. Brazil's cumulative steel exports from January to July fell 24.9 per cent from a year earlier to US $3.5 billion.
