SMM, July 22nd:

Before noon, the mainstream spot transaction price of aluminum ingots in South China was 14400 won 14500 yuan / ton, and the discount from South China to East China was 40 won 60 yuan / ton, slightly narrower than yesterday. Yesterday afternoon, the spot market for Shanghai Aluminum 2008 contract rose around 100yuan / ton, which changed little. In early trading, aluminum opened high and left low, slightly weak, the buyer accepted the goods at a low price, the market was basically discounted, and the large households still purchased in a single batch, and the basis was not significantly reduced. Tianshan, Baikuang, Hope, Hualei and other Pu aluminum posted 20 yuan / ton on the net price. The second period of aluminum quickly rebounded and pulled up, the spot turned to rising water and continued to rise, after the price increase, the market activity decreased, and the transaction became weaker. The price of Shanghai Aluminum 2008 contract is lowered to 60mur100 yuan / ton, and the actual transaction price difference between Guangdong and Shanghai is 50 yuan / ton. Low iron prices such as Hua Qian and Hualei are higher than Pu Aluminum by 10 murals and 30 yuan per ton. Rusal and other imported aluminum ingots are still about 100 yuan cheaper than domestic aluminum ingots.

[SMM Aluminum Inventory Statistics] According to SMM statistics, aluminum ingot inventory in major domestic consumption sites of China stood at 638,000 tonnes on September 30, down 36,000 tonnes from Monday and down 40,000 tonnes from last Thursday, marking three consecutive weeks of destocking before the National Day holiday for a cumulative decline of 158,000 tonnes; 6063 aluminum billet inventory stood at 149,500 tonnes, down 5,000 tonnes from Monday.

Inventory Changes of Aluminum Ingots and Billets Around the 2026 National Day [SMM Data]

Sep 30 news: [SMM Inventory Statistics] According to SMM statistics, changes in aluminum ingot and aluminum billet (collectively referred to as aluminum inventory) inventories in major consumption areas in China around the National Day holiday, 2020-2026: overall destocking before the holiday, with the most concentrated inventory buildup during the holiday. During the one-week National Day holiday from 2020 to 2025, aluminum ingots, aluminum billets, and total aluminum inventory all saw inventory buildup (aluminum ingots up 4.0%-17.3%, aluminum billets up 12.7%-66.0%, total aluminum inventory up 6.9%-21.2%). In the second week after the holiday, aluminum ingots did not see further inventory buildup except in 2021, while aluminum billets destocked in all six years. In 2026, before the holiday, aluminum ingots destocked sharply for three consecutive weeks, down 63,000 mt on September 17, down 55,000 mt on September 24, and down 55,000 mt on September 30, with a cumulative destocking of 158,000 mt over the three weeks, the steepest for the same period in recent years.
