SHANGHAI, Jun 15 (SMM) – China produced 2.98 million mt of primary aluminium in May, up 0.4% from the previous month but down 0.1% from the same month of 2019, according to SMM calculations based data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released on Monday.
That brought the tally for the January-to-May period to 14.81 million mt, up 2.1% from the same period last year, smaller than an increase of 2.4% seen in January-April.
NBS data also showed that China's production of 10 nonferrous metals, including copper, aluminium, lead, zinc and nickel, grew 4.1% year on year to 4.98 million mt in April.
For the first five months of 2020, total production of the 10 metals came in at 24.13 million mt, up 2.7% from the same period last year.
