(ArcelorMittal), the world's largest steelmaker, said on Tuesday that it had stopped production in the central Bosnian town of Zenica. According to reports, the factory has about 1400 workers.
In March this year, Bosnia imposed a blockade in response to the epidemic, with steel end-users, including carmakers, shutting down factories. The epidemic has infected more than 2300 people and killed more than 134 people in the country.
ArcelorMittal said it planned to cut production and jobs at the Omalska (Omarska) iron mine that supplies the Zenica plant in July, but then postponed those plans. A spokesman for the plant said that at present, only the coking plant is in operation.
