[SMM summary review] BHP Billiton Giemba iron ore mine resumption of production impact is limited, BHP Billiton said that Western Australia Jimba iron ore mine has begun to resume operations. Due to the short time of influence, it is not expected to have a substantial impact on the production of the mine.

SMM5 March 20: earlier news said that BHP Billiton's Jimba (Jimblebar) was temporarily closed. BHP Billiton has had to suspend operations at an iron ore mine in Western Australia that uses a fleet of fully automatic trucks, according to local media reports. People familiar with the matter said production at the Giemba (Jimblebar) mine was suspended for several hours after an unspecified "series of low-level safety incidents". In March last year, two self-driving trucks collided at the mine. BHP attributed the accident to heavy rain and pointed out that no one was hurt. The site has been an experimental mine for technical testing of automatic trucks since 2014, and the suspension is mainly concerned with production safety.

However, BHP Billiton just said that the Jimba iron ore mine in Western Australia has begun to resume operation. Due to the short time of influence, it is not expected to have a substantial impact on the production of the mine.

The Jimba (Jimblebar) mine produced about 1.39 million tons of iron ore in the first quarter of 2020, according to BHP's website.
