SMM5, May 15, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 18, 2020-Vale announced that it has resumed shipping operations at (TRMT), a Malaysian logistics hub, on May 16, 2020. On March 24, 2020, Vale suspended operations at the logistics centre in Malaysia because it was temporarily unable to ensure the minimum resources needed to safely operate the port during the Xinguan outbreak.
Since then, Vale and the local government have been assessing the development of the epidemic and ensuring that adequate health and safety measures are taken to ensure that the Malaysian logistics centre has access to the resources necessary for safe operation. Over the past two weeks, the Malaysian logistics centre has carried out maintenance to ensure the safe resumption of operations.
In 2019, the Malaysian logistics center shipped 23.7 million tons of iron ore. The suspension of operations at the Malaysian logistics centre will have no impact on Vale's guided iron ore production of 310 million to 330 million tons in 2020, but the resumption of operations will increase the flexibility of Vale's operations and strengthen Vale's value chain. The resumption follows Vale's commitment to the safety of the people and the communities in which it operates.
