Daily crude steel output at CISA key mills up 2% in early May

Crude steel output across major mills in China averaged 2.05 million mt per day in the first 10 days of May.

SHANGHAI, May 13 (SMM) – Crude steel output across major mills in China averaged 2.05 million mt per day in the first 10 days of May, up 1.97% from the level seen in the last 10 days of April and 5.44% higher than the average level for the month of April, according to data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) released on Tuesday.

 

Compared to April 21-30, average daily production of pig iron across those CISA key mills in May 11-10 rose 0.58% to 1.85 million mt, while that of steel products fell 6.31% 1.91 million mt.

 

On a yearly basis, average daily crude steel output across those mills was 0.28% higher.

 

As of May 10, inventories of steel products across those mills stood at 14.66 million mt, down 66,400 mt, or 0.45%, from the end of April but 5.13 million mt, or 53.81% higher than the beginning of the year.
