On April 20, about 70,000 new cases were confirmed worldwide. As of 18:00 on 21 April, the total number of confirmed cases worldwide had reached 2.48 million and the cumulative number of deaths had exceeded 160000.

25000 new cases were confirmed in the United States on the 20th, and the trend of new diagnoses in a single day is relatively stable. The governor of New York said: the data show that New York may have passed the worst stage of the epidemic. The epidemic situation in Turkey has become more serious, and the new trend has remained high. As of 15:00 on April 21, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Turkey has reached 90,000, surpassing China and Iran, making it the seventh country in the world in terms of the cumulative number of confirmed cases. In addition, Russia 20 new 4,000 cases, a total of 47000 confirmed, surpassing Belgium to become the tenth largest number of confirmed countries in the world.

The development of the epidemic in Africa is equally noteworthy. As of 18:00 on 21 April, a total of 23985 new confirmed cases and 1162 deaths had been reported in the African region, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Africa. Among them, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Algeria epidemic situation is more serious.

At present, a number of African countries have taken measures to respond actively to the epidemic. Morocco has built a field hospital in six days, which has 200 beds and is equipped with the necessary medical equipment for the treatment of patients with new crown pneumonia, of which 20 beds are for critically ill patients and the remaining 180 beds are for critically ill patients in need of intensive care. Egyptian restaurants offer "free lunches" for health care workers, while the progress of the Greater Egyptian Museum project will be slowed by 50%, delaying the opening time from the end of 2020 to 2021.

However, most countries in Africa are stretched in terms of anti-epidemic materials. The World Health Organization points out that in 41 of the 55 countries in Africa, there are fewer than 2000 working ventilators and 10 other countries do not have a ventilator. In addition, the supply of basic living materials in Africa is also worrying, where there is a chronic lack of medical and health supplies, masks, disinfectants and even water resources. At present, the growth of the epidemic in Africa has shown the early trend of the major epidemic countries in the world. Once it spreads rapidly, the consequences will be "catastrophic" for African countries with relatively backward medical and health conditions and social development.
