Lead social inventories fell slower as smelters resumed sales after prices rebounded

SHANGHAI, Mar 27 (SMM) – Social inventories of lead ingots in China continued to fall this week, as downstream consumers kicked off a new round of long-term contracted procurement.

SMM data showed that lead social stocks across Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Tianjin decreased about 7,800 mt in the week ended March 27 to 17,900 mt.

This week’s decline was smaller than a decline of more than 10,000 mt in the previous week, as primary and secondary lead smelters resumed sales after lead prices rebounded.

Smelters remained reluctant to sell their cargoes earlier in the week, forcing downstream consumers to source raw material from the spot market. Spot trades were done in high premiums, and quotes for domestic materials were in premiums of 200-300 yuan/mt over the SHFE 2004 contract.

Lead ingot social inventories in China are expected to fall further slower next week, as smelters turn willing to discharge cargoes and as secondary lead smelters in Anhui, Jiangxi and other regions are recovering their production.

【Flash | Coherent’s PhotonLink Sets the Stage for a Commercial Indium Phosphide (InP) Ramp】
Coherent launched PhotonLink, an integrated optics platform for AI infrastructure incorporating Indium Phosphide (InP) lasers, silicon photonics, detectors and optical modules. The company disclosed more than 10 CPO engagements, over 10 NPO engagements and more than five chip-to-chip connectivity projects, with anchor customers and long-term agreements secured for both CPO and NPO. Revenue is expected to begin ramping in Q4 2026. Coherent has shipped over 300 million InP lasers and is expanding its 6-inch InP manufacturing capacity to support the ramp. The customer pipeline provides a clearer commercial demand signal for InP devices and upstream materials, although additional capacity and indium consumption were not disclosed.

Nine Mile’s Second Rig Arrives at Tribag–West Wedge to Test Seven Electromagnetic Targets
Nine Mile Metals announced that its second rig had arrived at Tribag–West Wedge in New Brunswick, Canada, with drilling expected to begin at Tribag in the coming days. Seven modelled electromagnetic targets are associated with the Tribag lead-zinc and West Wedge copper-lead-zinc occurrences. Wedge drilling continues in parallel. By September 21, the company had completed 18 holes totaling 4,934.50 metres of its 10,000-metre annual program. The conductors remain geophysical targets requiring drilling to establish their source.

Masivo Silver reported assays from CC-26-001, its first hole at Cerro Colorado in Sonora, Mexico. The hole intersected 32.50 metres from 226.30 to 258.80 metres averaging 0.271% zinc, 0.141% lead and 7.0 g/t silver. Technical difficulties ended drilling at 259.5 metres while the hole remained within mineralized rock.
