SMM3 24: prior to Italy announced that steel mills will stop production in order to strengthen the spread of coronavirus restrictions. The government has ordered the suspension of unnecessary industrial and commercial activities by March 25. But ArcelorMittal Taranto, Italy's largest flat steel producer, has been approved to maintain production.

Due to the particularity of blast furnace plant production, complete shutdown will cause heavy losses. And Italian government decrees that special factory activities "can lead to serious damage to the factory itself", which has once again been approved by the local government.

Earlier, the company closed the No. 2 blast furnace in Taranto (Taranto) and the No. 1 melting plant in Taranto. Crude steel production will now be about 8500 tons per day, and only two blast furnaces (No. 1 and No. 4) will continue to operate.
