Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 18 March 2020-Vale updates to the market the steps taken and measures taken by Vale to protect its employees, businesses and communities from the threat posed by the new coronavirus epidemic, and the impact of these measures.

Vale is likely to suspend operations at (TRMT), a Malaysian logistics centre, until March 31 from Saturday. The Malaysian logistics center shipped 23.7 million tons of iron ore in 2019. Vale is communicating with the local government to determine whether government controls on intercity traffic are likely to restrict access to Malaysian logistics centres.

In that case, ships already destined for the Malaysian logistics centre will be rescheduled and relocated to mixed ports off the coast of China. It is not expected to have an impact on production and sales for the whole of 2020, but it is likely to have an impact on sales of about 800000 tons in the first quarter. Logistics costs are expected to increase slightly as a result of additional logistics arrangements.

Vale reaffirms its commitment to the safety of people and communities in which it operates and will provide timely updates to investors and markets.
