SMM3, May 5: the Canadian Iron and Steel Association (CSPA) announced Wednesday that it wants to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, which is at the heart of "Climate Call to Action."

CSPA Chairman Catherine Cobden says addressing the challenge of climate change requires everyone to unite. While zero carbon emissions is an ambitious goal, he believes it can be achieved through partnerships with governments, consumers and supply chains.

Canadian steelmakers have reduced carbon emissions by 25 per cent through energy efficiency and operational improvements since 1990, according to CSPA, although the steel industry still needs to develop groundbreaking technologies to meet its goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050.
