Looking forward to October, most of the primary lead smelting enterprises are in a state of recovery. On the one hand, the orange early warning of heavy pollution in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and its surrounding areas has been lifted, and the production restriction of smelting enterprises in Henan and other places has ended; on the other hand, for example, Henan Yuguang, Xing'an silver lead, Yunnan Mengzi and other smelting enterprises have finished overhauling. During the period, due to Henan Wanyang and other enter maintenance, but the impact is limited, it is expected that SMM10 month native lead enterprise operating rate rose 2.62% to 66.10% month-on-month.

SMM, Oct. 12

According to the SMM (SMM) survey, in September 2019, the operating rate of SMM China's primary lead smelter was 63.48%, down 1.1% from August and up 2.39% from the same period last year. The survey involved 46 enterprises and a production capacity of 4.691 million tons.

According to SMM research, in September, primary lead smelting enterprises recovered after routine maintenance, such as Hechi South, Henan Minshan, Hunan Shuikoushan and other enterprises, and taking into account the increase in lead concentrate processing fees, SMM lead concentrate Pb 50 domestic TC (October) reported to 1900-2100 yuan / metal ton to enhance smelting profit level and stimulate the production enthusiasm of enterprises, and some enterprises resumed after overhaul in August. Production continued to increase in September. During the period, Henan Yuguang, Jiangxi Copper, Yunnan Mengzi and other large and medium-sized enterprises were overhauled, and the output of smelting enterprises still showed a downward trend after offsetting the increase and decrease of production. In addition, at the end of September, due to the launch of orange early warning of heavy pollution in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and its surrounding areas, some enterprises in Henan had production restrictions to a certain extent, so the operating rate of primary lead enterprises in September was basically in line with the expectations of the previous report.

The operating rate of large enterprises with an annual capacity of more than 100000 tons increased by 2.59 per cent to 73.16 per cent over the previous month. In September, with the gradual increase of domestic lead concentrate processing fees, enterprise profits have been repaired, such as Hechi South, Hunan Shuikoushan and other smelters have increased month-on-month output.

The operating rate of medium-sized enterprises with an annual capacity of 5-100000 tons decreased by 4.24 per cent to 58.28 per cent compared with the previous month. In September, such as Yunnan Mengzi, Honghe Zhenxing and other smelters began to overhaul, affecting part of the output release.

The operating rate of small enterprises with an annual capacity of less than 50,000 tons decreased by 2.22% to 46.91% compared with the previous month. In September, Shaanxi Dongling lead production line overhaul, affecting a certain output release.

Silverco Mobilizes Contractors for Cusi Restart in Mexico, Heading for Year-End Lead-Zinc-Silver Production
Silverco Mining announced the mobilization of underground mining contractors at its wholly owned Cusi property in Chihuahua, Mexico, marking a critical milestone in the mine's restart plan. The company has appointed local experienced firms Mafrissa and Rencer to handle underground development and production mining across the Promontorio and San Miguel zones, respectively. Located in the Sierra Madre Occidental belt, the Cusi Complex is a historically productive underground mine renowned for its rich silver, lead, zinc, and gold deposits. Silverco expects the first ore from the Promontorio zone late in Q3 2026, while a new portal and ramp will be constructed at the San Miguel zone to ramp up production in H1 2027. CEO Mark Ayranto noted that with underground work and mill rehabilitation currently underway, the company remains strictly on schedule to produce its first concentrate in Q4 2026 and exit the year with two producing polymetallic mines in Mexico.

【SMM Flash】Russia Extends Industrial Sulphur Export Ban Through End-2026
Russia has officially extended its temporary sulphur export ban until December 31, 2026, according to Government Decree No. 785 signed on June 25, 2026. The ban was originally set to expire on June 30. The restriction continues to cover liquid, granular and lump sulphur. The Russian government stated that the move aims to prioritise domestic fertiliser production and safeguard national food security. Exemptions apply to exports destined for Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states (including Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc.), as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Sulphur shipments for humanitarian aid and international transit are also permitted under special licenses. The impact of the ban and broader market conditions has weighed on domestic output: Russia's industrial gaseous sulphur production fell 19% year-on-year to 1.75 million tonnes in January-May 2026.
