Construction of the relocated Shijiazhuang Iron and Steel began on July 10, according to a report by China Metallurgical News.
To control air pollution, the mill, owned by steel giant Hebei Iron and Steel Group, or HBIS Group, moved from the urban region of the capital city of Hebei to the rural areas, and will give up blast furnaces and adopt electric arc furnaces to turn steel scrap into steel.
With total investment of over 10 billion yuan, the mill is expected to be able to produce 2 million mt of steel and 1.92 million mt of high-end special steel products in a year, after being commissioned at the end of 2020.
