Crude steel output in Q1 expands 9.9% on year: MIIT

Domestic output of pig iron and steel products in Q1 advanced 9.3% and 10.8% on the year, respectively

SHANGHAI, May 9 (SMM) – China's production of crude steel came in at 231 million mt in the first quarter, up 9.9% from the same period in 2018, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday May 9. 

The data also showed that domestic output of pig iron and steel products in the first quarter advanced 9.3% and 10.8% on the year, respectively, to stand at 195 million mt and 269 million mt. 

In January-March, large and medium-sized steel mills produced 173 million mt of crude steel, up 7.3% from a year ago. Production of pig iron and steel products at those mills posted 157 million mt and 161 million mt, up 6.9% and 6% on the year, respectively.
