China’s crude steel output up 6.7% in Jan-Nov

The China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) reported that crude steel output across major mills in China averaged 2.4 million mt per day in the last ten days of April, up 3.25% from mid-April and up 19.27% from the same period a year ago.

As of September 17, 2020, Zhasan Iron & Steel has shut down completely, resulting in a daily loss of 8,000 mt of pig iron output. The mill mainly produced steel billets and had two 1,260 m³ blast furnaces and two 120 mt converters, with annual steel capacity of 3 million mt.

Operating rates of blast furnaces (BFs) at Chinese steelmakers extended declines as decreased profits prompted steel mills to conduct maintenance.

The recent torrential rains across Sichuan and areas such as Leshan, Aba and Ya’an has caused a negative impact on the production of silicon mills and polysilicon mills.

Planned output of construction steel rebar across China’s major blast furnace steelmakers is estimated to fall 3.32% from the realised production in July to 8.88 million mt in August, showed an SMM survey. 

China’s copper cathode output shrank in July as some smelters conducted maintenance to deal with shortage of copper concentrate.

SMM data showed that HRC stocks across social warehouses and steelmakers increased 2.3% in the week ended July 23 to 3.86 million mt, smaller than a 3.72% gain in the previous week.
