The province cut 600,000 mt of pig iron capacity and 3.55 million mt of crude steel capacity

SHANGHAI, Nov 28 (SMM) – China's eastern Shandong province met its annual target to cut 600,000 mt of pig iron capacity and 3.55 million mt of crude steel capacity, local authorities announced on November 26.

The cut was in response to nationwide supply-side reform and an anti-pollution push, SMM learned.

By the end of September, Linyi Sande Special Steel in Shandong eliminated 2.85 million mt of steelmaking overcapacity as it shuttered three outdated converters. Zibo Qilin Fushan Steel removed 600,000 mt of ironmaking capacity and 700,000 mt of steelmaking capacity after it shut a blast furnace and converter.

Province officials checked and verified results of the overcapacity elimination on October 15-17.
