Level-Ⅱ smog alert suspends steel mills in Tangshan

Rolling mills in Category B and sintering machines at steel mills in Category D were required to suspend in Nov 22-27

SHANGHAI, Nov 22 (SMM) – Rolling mills in Category B and sintering machines at steel mills in Category D in Tangshan of Hebei province were required to suspend from 18:00 CST on November 22 to 12:00 CST on November 27. This is in response to a second-severe orange smog alert issued by the city government on Thursday November 22. 

Cutbacks for steel plants in Categories B and C stood at 50% and 60%, respectively. Mills in Category A that’s located in urban areas faced cutbacks of 40%, while that’s located out of urban city should cut 30% capacity, SMM learned.

Category A rolling mills within industrial parks were exempt from restrictions during the period. For those out of industrial parks should stop production. 

All mining and ore crushing companies in Tangshan were required to suspend amid the smog alert. 

On Wednesday November 21, Hebei required 10 cities and Xiong’an new district to issue an orange smog alert from 18:00 CST on Thursday November 22, according to the provincial ministry of ecology and environment.
