Steel mills are likely to impose production cuts of 20-30% on blast furnaces as a fresh round of environmental review approaches

SHANGHAI, Aug 30 (SMM) –  Steel mills in Anhui province are likely to impose production cuts of 20-30% on blast furnaces in October, as a fresh round of environmental review approaches. The new round of reviews is likely to be conducted by the central government.

Maanshan Iron & Steel plans to put a blast furnace of 2500m³ into maintenance during October. This will affect some 5,000 mt of molten iron daily production.

At Anhui Changjiang Steel, some 3,500 mt of molten iron output is likely to be affected each day as the company plans to begin overhauls on a blast furnace of 1080m³ on October 1. Maintenance is scheduled to last 24 days. Rolling lines will also be repaired in this period, and this is estimated to affect long steel production by some 90,000 mt.

Maanshan Iron & Steel and Anhui Changjiang Steel are the two largest steel mills in Anhui.
