Excessive emission during the sintering was found at Danyang Longjiang Steel in Jiangsu province

SHANGHAI, Jun 25 (SMM) – Excessive emission during the sintering process was found at Danyang Longjiang Steel in Jiangsu province in the environmental review across the region, according to state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) on Monday June 25.

The mill was also suspected in data fraud on sulphur dioxide emission and was required to suspend its production for rectification.

Its daily steel output averaged 5,000 mt in normal operations. However, the mill’s production was already cut by half since the environmental reviews began in Jiangsu earlier this month.

It is unclear when the mill can resume production. SMM estimates the suspension to last for at least half a month.

As of June 15, some 640 manufacturing plants across 10 Chinese provinces were fined under the central government’s environmental review initiative. Of the total 58.07 million yuan of fines, Jiangsu topped the list and accounted for 24.52 million yuan of fines. Such amount is three times as much as the runner up, Hebei.
