China's crude steel output up 8.9% in May

China produced 81.13 million mt of crude steel in May, up 8.9% year on year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics

SHANGHAI, Jun 14 (SMM) – China produced 81.13 million mt of crude steel in May, up 8.9% year on year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

This brought the country’s crude steel output in the first five months to 369.86 million mt, up 5.4% on the year.

Meanwhile, May output of pig iron stood at 66.89 million mt, up 4% year on year. Production in the first five months amounted to 305.59 million mt, down 0.6% year on year.

Steel output last month came in at 97.07 million mt, up 10.8% year on year. This brought output during January to May to 434.67 million mt, up 6.2% year on year.
