SHANGHAI, May 17 (SMM) – China’s output of crude steel in April notched an all-time high of 76.7 million mt in April, up 3.7% month on month and up 4.8% year on year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Output of crude steel stood at 288.97 million mt for the first four months of this year, while the average daily output came in at 2.56 million mt in April, up 7.13% from March.

Driven by high profits, steel mills were keen to raise production. As authorities stepped up efforts to crack down on ditiao steel, large and medium-sized steel mills raised production to meet demand. SMM believes that these developments bolstered overall output of crude steel.
