Central SOEs Beat Steel and Coal Capacity Cut Goals

Central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have cut more steel and coal capacity than the central government has ordered last year and in January-August this year.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 28 (SMM) – Central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have cut more steel and coal capacity than the central government has ordered last year and in January-August this year.

In 2016, steel and coal capacity cut by central SOEs took up 80% and 73%, respectively, of total cuts nationwide. 

In January-August 2017, central SOEs slashed another 16.14 million tonnes of steel capacity and 55.10 million tonnes of coal capacity.
