China imported 287,268 tonnes of copper scrap in July, up 2.89% YoY, according to China Customs.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 25 (SMM) – China imported 287,268 tonnes of copper scrap in July, up 2.89% YoY, according to China Customs.

China Imported Copper Concentrate TCs Stabilize This Week, SMM Reports

SMM attributed two main factors to the year-on-year growth.

First, profitable import window of copper scrap opened from mid-April, increasing imports into China’s market, SMM data showed.

Copper Stocks Grow in Shanghai Bonded Zone, SMM Says

Second, copper smelters preferred copper scrap after price gap between copper cathode and copper scrap widened.
