Small Impact on Nickel Demand from Closures of Electroplating Plants, SMM Reports

SHANGHAI, Aug. 15 (SMM) – Latest news report that electroplating plants in some regions of Zhejiang will be closed for environmental factor, Shanghai Metals Market learns. 

The closures are expected to have a small impact on nickel demand, SMM foresees, as consumption from electroplating sector has been lackluster recently. 

Shandong Low-grade NPI Producers Release Ex-works Prices, Higher than Market Price

On Tuesday’s morning business, nickel futures prices rallied after falling at first, with Jinchuan nickel offered at premiums of 1,000 yuan per tonne. 

Jinchuan Group cut nickel ex-works price by 1,000 yuan Tuesday to 84,800 yuan per tonne, closer to market price. Russian nickel was at discounts of 100 yuan per tonne. 

Downstream producers showed moderate buying interest, with mainstream traded prices between 83,300-84,800 yuan per tonne in morning business.
