TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports gained ny $4 a ton to reach $242 a ton during the week ended June 02, according to the figures from The Steel Index.
Taiwanese mills did not seem eager to purchase scrap this past week as they are heading into their annual restriction on electricity usage in their country.
Offered prices from suppliers went up this week but concluded deals were limited and so were the volumes.
Moreover, scrap offers from China are giving them an additional venue to purchase from. The domestic market remains weak for finished long products due to a limited number of construction projects.
