SMM learned that many aluminum smelters in China are starting to bring idled capacity back into operation.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 21 (SMM) – SMM learned that many aluminum smelters in China are starting to bring idled capacity back into operation.

Those smelters include Gansu Dongxing Aluminum, Yunnan Qujing Aluminum, etc. Capacity restarts total nearly 500,000 tonnes.

With supply already in surplus and softening consumption, these production resumptions will put downward pressure on aluminum prices, SMM warns.
