TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports remained flat at $238 a ton during the week ended May 19, according to the figures from The Steel Index.

Taiwanese containerized shredded scrap assessment remained flat this week at $238 a ton. Taiwanese mills did not seem eager to purchase ISRI grade scrap due to the fact that they have been monitoring the scrap export situation in China.
Chinese origin scrap has been exported to some countries in North and South East Asia and it has been reported that more countries are have shown interest in it.
Overall the scrap market is keeping a close eye on the Chinese scrap situation as it has the potential to upend scrap flows in Asia, as well as globally.
Although some scrap deals concluded in Taiwan, the volumes were very limited as the domestic market remains weak for finished long products.
