SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has published the 2017 edition of ‘World Steel in Figures’. The yearly publication provides comprehensive overview of latest activities in global steel sector and indications of global trade flows along with key facts and figures for the year 2016.
According to the report, the global steel production has more than tripled from less than 500 million tonnes in 1967 to as high as nearly 1,600 million tonnes in 2016. The new industrializing nations such as Brazil, China, India, Iran and Mexico accounted for much of the steel production growth over the past 50 years. The innovations that have driven the efficiency of steel manufacturing process and level of sustainability standards will continue over the next 50 years, the publication noted.
