Rumor has been circulating since last Friday that Shandong issued a notice on Implementation Program for Illegal Aluminum Project Crackdown Special Action.

SHANGHAI, May 10 (SMM) – Rumor has been circulating since last Friday that Shandong issued a notice on Implementation Program for Illegal Aluminum Project Crackdown Special Action.

Illegal aluminum capacity in China is concentrated in Shandong, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia.

Chalco: China to Slash Aluminum Production during Winter Heating Season

Currently, aluminum capacity already built in Shandong totals 11.9 million tonnes, of which 11.5 million tonnes are in operation. It is estimated that some 2-5 million tonnes of existing aluminum capacity in the province are illegal. This makes Shandong one of the main targets in supply side reform.

Henan Reports Mixed Alumina, Aluminum and Aluminum Semis Output in Q1

With supply side reform under way, release of aluminum capacity will be restricted significantly after mid and late June. It is expected that aluminum production will be controlled in the second half of the year due to winter heating season. As such, aluminum price outlook might be more positive in H2 2017.

Longding Aluminum Hits Record 1,075 mt Battery Foil Production, Expands Capacity with Phase II Project
In October, Longding Aluminum Enterprise's battery foil production exceeded the 1,000 mt mark for the first time, reaching 1,075 mt, a record high. Since officially entering the battery foil market, the company has established a battery foil branch plant and a precision cutting branch plant to form effective upstream and downstream coordination. In just four months, it achieved battery foil products from scratch and from small to large volumes, with production growing by multiples for several consecutive months. Monthly production quickly surpassed the 1,000 mt mark, and the capacity ramp-up pace has been consistent and controllable, laying a solid foundation for expanding production and market development. To continuously strengthen and expand the battery foil industry, Longding Aluminum Enterprise is accelerating the construction of the 100,000 mt battery foil Phase II project. Among them, four new battery foil casting and rolling lines were successfully put into operation in October and quickly achieved stable production of battery foil stock; the construction of six new battery foil dedicated foil rolling units and supporting facilities is progressing in an orderly manner. After the project is completed, the company's battery foil capacity will exceed 8,000 mt per month, entering the first tier of China's battery foil industry and injecting strong momentum into the enterprise's quality improvement, transformation and upgrading, and high-quality development.

Qinghai Mingrui Aluminum Expands Production, Reaches 35,000 mt Capacity and 810M Yuan Output Value
Qinghai Mingrui Aluminum Co., Ltd. has planned a total of 11 production lines. All machinery is now in place, and the raw material is sourced locally from the liquid aluminum of Qinghai West Hydropower Co., Ltd. In February this year, the enterprise began trial production, and in March two production lines were put into operation, with a monthly capacity of 2,000 mt. In April, four more production lines came online, raising monthly capacity to 4,600 mt. After production lines No. 5 and No. 6 were put into operation, daily production increased from 160 mt to 220–240 mt. As of October, the enterprise's cumulative capacity reached 35,000 mt, with an output value of 810 million yuan.

NFC's Vietnam Aluminum Smelter Phase II Produces First Liquid Aluminum Ahead of Schedule
[SMM Aluminum Express News] NFC's Vietnam aluminum smelter Phase II produces first liquid aluminum four months ahead of schedule. China Nonferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction Co. (NFC) announced on November 2 that Phase II of the 450,000 mt/year Dak Nong primary aluminum smelter project in Vietnam successfully produced its first batch of liquid aluminum on October 31, 2026. The milestone was achieved four months and three days ahead of the contractual schedule, marking the transition from construction to trial production. The development follows Phase I's first liquid aluminum production on July 14 and the completion of initial aluminum production across all Phase I electrolytic cells on September 15. The project, located in Vietnam's former Dak Nong Province, now part of Lam Dong Province, represents the country's first large-scale domestic primary aluminum smelting operation. The development is planned in three phases of 150,000 mt/year each, with Phase II bringing the combined designed capacity of the first two phases to 300,000 mt/year, subject to successful commissioning and ramp-up. NFC stated that it will continue starting the remaining electrolytic cells and gradually increase production towards designed capacity. The milestone marks further progress in Vietnam's efforts to establish domestic primary aluminum production and reduce reliance on imported metal. However, Phase II remains in trial production, and its first liquid aluminum output does not indicate that the additional 150,000 mt/year capacity is fully operational.
