NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production climbed by 3.1 percent to 1,750,000 net tons in the week ended on April 29, 2017, while the capability utilization rate was 75.1 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

US domestic raw steel production was 1,698,000 net tons in the week ended April 29, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 72.6 percent. 

Raw steel production for the week ended April 29, 2017 is up 2.0 percent from the previous week ended April 22, 2017 when production was 1,715,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 29, 2017 was 29,459,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3 percent. That is up 3.6 percent from the 28,449,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
