Iran's Steel consumption drops during the current Iranian year

TEHRAN (Scrap Register): Iran's finished Steel consumption during the last Iranian year was seen to decrease by 1 percent and totaled at 19.27 million tons, but the domestic steel production recorded gain, as per the Iranian Steel Producers Association.

The Crude Steel production increased 11 percent to 18.46 million tons and the finished steel quoted an increase of 4 percent to 18.15 million tons. Finished Steel products imports by Iran was seen at 2.91 million tons this year, which is 31 percent lower against last year. 

Imports includes 1.65 million mt of hot-rolled steel coil, 617,000 mt of cold-rolled coil and 130,000 mt of rebar, which was seen a decrease of 36 percent, 9 percent and 60 percent respectively. Imports also include 187000 mt of steel billets which increased by about 44 percent.

The exports in the country is also increasing with the increase in production, exports rose to 5.53 million tons last year, which registered a 40.6 percent increase. This included 1.79 million mt of finished products, which was 16% less than in the prior year, and 3.74 million mt of semi-finished products, a jump of 108%.
