NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production was 1,715,000 net tons in the week ended on April 22, 2017 while the capability utilization rate was 73.6 percent, according to the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Domestic raw steel production was 1,698,000 net tons in the week ended April 22, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 72.6 percent. The current week production represents a 1.0 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. 

Production for the week ended April 22, 2017 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week ended April 15, 2017 when production was 1,740,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 22, 2017 was 27,709,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3 percent. That is up 3.6 percent from the 26,751,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
