Taiwan Containerized Scrap import prices slide to $255 a ton

Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports fell further to $255 a ton during the week ended April 07, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports fell further to $255 a ton during the week ended April 07, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

Prices for imported ISRI grade scrap into Taiwan slid $5 a ton during the week, to $255 a ton. Imported ISRI grade scrap prices slipped further this week. 

Mills’ bids were being capped by the prices at which they were able to sell rebar into the domestic market, and so forcing prices lower.

Domestic supply of scrap is still strong and mills’ scrap inventories are at a healthy level, thus they are in no rush to purchase scrap.

Local demand for finished long products remain weak in the near term, but the outlook looks good as the government continues to look at infrastructure and construction projects that will increase domestic demand.
