US Raw Steel production increases 2.5% to 1,740,000 net tons

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production was 1,740,000 net tons in the week ended on April 15, 2017 while the capability utilization rate was 74.6 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

US domestic raw steel production was 1,698,000 net tons in the week ended April 15, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 72.6 percent. The current week production represents a 2.5 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. 

Production for the week ended April 15, 2017 is up 2.2 percent from the previous week ended April 8, 2017 when production was 1,703,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 15, 2017 was 25,994,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3 percent. That is up 3.8 percent from the 25,053,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
