TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports remained stable at $251 a ton during the week ended January 13, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

Imported ISRI grade scrap prices into Taiwan decreased slightly the week to $251 a ton. There has been limited activity in the Taiwanese import market for ISRI grade scrap.

Mills remained stoically on the sidelines as suppliers are not willing to meet their bidding price. Domestic scrap suppliers are still sending good volumes into the mills and thus mills are not eager to purchase imported scrap at a premium.

Market sentiment remained uncertain, with the mills only willing to purchase out of the export market if the offer prices allow them to maintain workable margins.
