TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports dropped by $2 a ton to $251 a ton during the week ended January 06, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

Taiwanese mills bidding for scrap have been leaving suppliers in the balance. Having taken into account domestic prices for finished long products, mills were bidding at a price level which they believed to be acceptable.

At the moment, mills that are buying domestic scrap are still having a good amount of scrap sent to their yards and therefore most mills are not in a hurry nor feel pressure to purchase scrap. Domestic demand for finished long products remained weak.
