LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices declined by €7 per ton week-on-week to €548 per ton in the week ended January 06, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

The North European HRC index closed the week at €548 a ton, as a number of trades below the €550 a ton mark were reported during the week.

More clarity on prices should come next week, although with the current long delivery lead-times evident steel prices are expected to remain firm.

It was a slow week in the European market, as activity is yet to fully resume following the festive break, and some countries were on still holiday on Friday.

No new domestic offers were heard, and pre-holiday asking prices remained in place.
