NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production advanced by nearly 5 percent to 1,684,000 net tons during the week ended on January 7, 2017 while the capability utilization rate was 71.0 percent, as per the latest figures released by the the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Production was 1,607,000 net tons in the week ended January 7, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 68.7 percent.
Production for the week ended January 7, 2017 is up 5.8 percent from the previous week ended December 31, 2016 when production was 1,592,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 67.1 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through January 7, 2017 was 1,684 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.8 percent. That is up 4.8 percent from the 1,607 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 68.7 percent.
