SINGAPORE (Scrap Register): ASEAN hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices (CFR ASEAN port) stayed flat at $385 a ton during the week ended October 07, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

ASEAN HRC index finished the week at $385 a ton, unchanged from last Friday. With the near complete absence of Chinese market participants due to the Golden week holidays in China, trading activities in the ASEAN steel market remained almost mute.

In addition, re-rollers in Vietnam have been dealing with order cancellations from their customers in the United States following an announcement about the possibility of the US Department of Commerce imposing antidumping duties on flat steel products from Vietnam.

Taiwanese HRC was heard to have been bid at $405 a ton, but received no interest from mills as it was still $20 a ton away from the lowest offer in the market. GFI brokered a Q4 trade yesterday at $395 a ton on SGX, basis TSI.

All prices quoted on a CFR ASEAN port basis.
