DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in October this year has remained more or less flat when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of October 2016 totaled 4.318 million metric tons, flat when compared with the 4.326 million metric tons production achieved during September this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production during the month. India and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during October this year was 1.480 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in October remained almost unchanged when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.431 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in October 2016 totaled 1.193 million metric tons, which is marginally down when compared with the previous month output of 1.198 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in October this year amounted to 470,000 metric tons, which is significantly higher than 451,000 metric tons output during the previous month.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other ten countries in October 2016 is as follows: Canada (58), Saudi Arabia (310), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (98), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (65), Egypt (220), Libya (30), South Africa (30) and United Arab Emirates (365).
