NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production decreased by 2.4% year-on-year to 1,590,000 net tons in the week ended October 15 this year while the capability utilization rate was 67.0 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, United States raw steel production was 1,629,000 net tons in the week ended October 15, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 68.1 percent.
Raw steel production for the week ended October 15, 2016 is up 0.3 percent from the previous week ended October 8, 2016 when production was 1,585,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 66.8 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through October 15,2016 was 70,353,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.6 percent. That is down 1.9 percent from the 71,693,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.7 percent.
