SHANGHAI, Jul. 27 (SMM) – Yunnan Aluminum Co. has set an ambitious goal of bringing its self-sufficiency rate of alumina to 100% by 2020, Tecent Finance reported.
The company’s annual alumina capacity is 1 million tonnes at present, with self-sufficiency rate at 40%. With commissioning of its phase two 600,000-tpy alumina project in Yunnan’s Wenshan and 1 million-tpy alumina project in Laos, its alumina self-sufficiency rate will reach 65% by 2017 and rise further to 100% by 2020 when its annual alumina capacity will hit 2.6 million tonnes.

Yunnan Aluminum, whose main businesses are bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminum smelting, as well as aluminum processing, has an annual aluminum capacity of 1.2 million tonnes.
