SHANGHAI, Mar. 22 (SMM) – The number of electric bikes driven by lead-acid batteries posted declines in 2015 while that of electric bikes driven by lithium batteries registered gains, SMM reports at the 2016 (11th) Shanghai Lead & Zinc Summit March 17.
Chinese market share claimed by domestic top 10 producers of electric bikes using lead-acid batteries is forecast to grow from 45% in 2014 to 50%-55% in 2015, but that gained by producers of electric bikes using lithium batteries should increase from 8.48% in 2014 to 12.86% in 2015.
The number of electric bikes driven by lithium batteries will likely be up to 4.5 million units in 2015 from 3.01 million units in 2014.
Electric bike production at about 210 Chinese producers totaled 30.03 million units in 2015, a year-on-year rise of 2.3%. And the production in the whole country should be 35 million units, a fall of 1.44% year-on-year. The electric bike ownership will reach 198 million units in 2015.
