Los Angeles accounted for major share of US ferrous scrap exports during Jan-Nov 2015

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster):  By area, Los Angeles emerged as the largest exporter of ferrous scrap in the US during the period from January to November last year. The scrap exports from Los Angeles accounted for 20% of the total ferrous scrap exports by the US during this eleven-month period.

The data published by the US Department of Commerce indicates that the region accounted for 2.355 million tonnes of export during Jan-Nov ‘15. The exports from the region have dropped considerably by more than 25% from 3.157 million tonnes during the corresponding eleven-month period in 2014. The ferrous scrap exports from Los Angeles during November 2015 alone totaled 163,415 tonnes.

In second place was New York with 17% share during Jan-Nov ’15. The exports during the eleven-month period totaled 2.003 million tonnes. The percentage share of exports from New York improved marginally from 14.7% during the same period last year, though exports stood lower by 4.7% when matched with 2.102 million tonnes during Jan-Nov ’14. The state topped in ferrous scrap export volume during Nov ’15, exporting 213,496 tonnes.

San Francisco contributed 12.1% of the total US ferrous scrap imports during the first eleven months in 2015. The export share dropped from 12.4% a year ago. The cumulative exports from the region too dropped from 1.778 million tonnes in Jan-Nov ’14 to 1.428 million tonnes during the same period in 2015. The exports from San Francisco dropped to 79,145 tonnes during the month of Nov ’15.

The other major ferrous scrap exporting regions during Jan-Nov ’15 were Boston (646,901 tonnes), Philadelphia (607,579 tonnes) and Seattle (562,283 tonnes).
