US weekly raw steel output falls 2.4% despite rise in output by Western region

The weekly raw steel output by the US dropped sharply by 2.4% during the week ended November 21st, 2015.

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production by the country declined considerably during the week ended November 21st, 2015. The production had recorded decline of 1.1% during the week prior to this.

The total domestic raw steel output during the week ending November 21st was 1,562,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has declined significantly by 2.4% during the week. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended Nov 14th)  production figures of 1,601,000 net tons. Also, the weekly output represents a sharp decline of 15.8% in comparison with production of 1,856,000 net tons during same week the previous year.

The capability utilization rate of US steel makers dropped to 65.3% during the week ended Nov 21st, 2015.

The capacity utilization rate has witnessed modest decline when compared with 67.0% during the previous week (ie., the week ending November 14th). Also, capacity utilization was considerably lower when compared with the rate of 77.2% during same week the previous year.
