SINGAPORE (Scrap Register): ASEAN hot rolled cold (HRC) steel import prices (CFR ASEAN port) remained almost flat week-on-week during last week, according to The Steel Index.

Sentiment in the domestic flat steel market in China was positive early in the week, at least until iron ore prices reversed some of their recent gains.

Most Chinese steel producers ceased offering material to ASEAN markets close to the Labour Day holiday weekend, hoping for a clearer picture to emerge next week.

Japanese HR coil (SAE grade) was concluded as high as US$390/CFR Vietnam, whilst offers to Indonesia (a controlled market) were close to US$450/t CFR port.

However, buyers appeared willing to hold out until next week before booking non-Chinese origin cargoes.
