Motive lead-acid battery demand improved after the end of the Chinese New Year holiday, leading to supply shortage at many battery wholesalers, SMM understands.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 16 (SMM) – Motive lead-acid battery demand improved after the end of the Chinese New Year holiday, leading to supply shortage at many battery wholesalers, SMM understands.

Battery wholesalers did not build stocks in large amounts before the holiday, so their inventories ran down quickly when end-consumer demand picked up following the holiday. This occured at the same time when battery production was disrupted due to an early closure ahead of holiday and difficulty in recruiting workers after the holiday. As a result, battery supply tightened.

Three of the ten battery wholesellers reported a shortfall in several specifications, such as 48V 32Ah batteries used on electric tricycles, while another three said goods were sold out. The remaining four in the survey sustained normal sales.
